   -  "Why do people write computer viruses?"

To answer a question with a question, why do people climb

mountains? We quote several sources in an attempt to answer

this often asked question that is boggling every computer

      user lately.

Cody Kniffen, a student from Illinois posted on a message board:

"Hacking is very confusing to the average 'joe' but can be

very fun if you know your stuff."

Article February 13, 2001 by Maria Godoy, TechTV News

A Dutch hacker known as "OnTheFly" is claiming credit for

an email virus disguised as a photo of 19-year-old Russian

tennis star Anna Kournikova, which has swamped corporate

           computer networks around the world.

"I didn't do it for fun," OnTheFly wrote in a Web posting

Tuesday. "I never wanted to harm the people who opened the

attachment. But after all: it's their own fault they got

           infected."

A July 22, 1999 article from Steven Trilling, director of research

      at Symantec reads:

"Most virus writers are simply flaunting their intelligence

and ego by proving they can write a virus. This type of

            person isn't necessarily out to harm lots of computer users;

virus writers are usually driven more by ego than malice."

5.    Manager's Moment - Wisdom from the Recruiter Message Boards:

"Which is more important when walking, the right leg or the left leg?

More seriously, the one that's more important, in practice, is the one

that's missing more often. Organizing skills are far more common than

real leadership skills. But a successful team certainly needs both --

although not necessarily in the same person.

Problems happen when organizing is simply glorified bean-counting and

button-sorting, and is privileged over leadership, or when leadership is

only motivational, and doesn't include enough direction. Getting everybody

to pull together isn't useful if you're pulling things toward the nearest

      cliff.

Like most things, there's balance and a tension between the two."

      Joel Rosenberg, CEO

      joelr@ellegon.com

      Ellegon, Inc.

Who could have said this better?  Least we forget the two sides of one coin;

I offer Mr. Rosenberg's answer to a question.  This answer was so well stated,

it can stand on it's own.  Mr. Rosenberg is a technical and copy writer.

Special thanks for his permission to quote him.
